“Clear Vision” Black Excellence and Empowerment Fair
Summary: Rainier Beach High School students spent time meeting with and learning from local Black entrepreneurs, business owners, and investors.
At the 2022 “Clear Vision” Black Excellence and Empowerment Fair, students at Rainier Beach High School spent time meeting with and learning from local Black entrepreneurs, business owners, and investors. This was the first event of it’s kind at the school and students were excited to gain insight from professionals who are passionate about their careers.
“I’m excited about [the Black Excellence fair],” said Melodie Slaughter, Rainier Beach sophomore and Black Student Union President. “I’m excited for all the students to get to learn and make connections with the people who are here.”
The fair hosted an array of businesses—from an ice cream shop, to clothing companies, and a fitness guru, doctor, and caterer, among many other professionals.
“It’s all about empowerment,” Rainier Beach teacher Nicole Petty said. “We want our students to have a clear vision on what they want to do [in life]. This is really encouraging our students to not just have goals, but to understand the execution behind achieving them.”
